Sadaf Olive Green Chinnon Saree
SWT413
On orders above ₹2,000
On orders above ₹5,000
Olive green is the last colour a sea shell suggests, until you tilt one: Sadaf means shell and mother of pearl, and a gold sheen crosses this chinnon as it turns. In beige thread, hand embroidered in Lucknow by the maker, bakhiya shadow work lays the pallu's lattice, phanda knots each buti's rim and keel kangan sets its centre. A rose copper scallop edges the 5.5 metres, no blouse piece.

The stitches
- Bakhiya (shadow work)Herringbone worked on the reverse of sheer cloth, so the motif glows through as a soft shadow, the signature of true Chikankari.
- Phanda (knot)Tight millet-seed knots placed one by one to build jasmine buds and flower centres.
- Keel KanganKeel sets the pointed flower centre. Kangan rings it like a bangle around the motif.
How to wear it
- Neither the sage blouse in the photographs nor cloth for one is in the order, which puts the tailor well before the wedding.
- Laid single, this chinnon shows the blouse and waist behind it. Sage, as photographed, sits close to the olive, and a contrast would read through.
- At a reception, leave the pallu open and the whole lattice falls down the back to the floor. Pleat it at the shoulder and a narrow band shows.
