100–112 grams per square metre is what this Kota doria weighs, 15.6% of it silk, against 80–85 for the house's all cotton doria. Rajiya hand embroidered the peach ground in Lucknow, every stitch in white thread, tepchi first and flat along the outlines, phanda after it, tied one knot at a time. Saanjh is early evening, and its 5.5 metres arrive without a blouse piece.

Razia Sultana is a shadow-work master in the Shwet Heritage self-help-group network in Lucknow, at the embroidery frame since 2010. Bakhiya, her specialty, is worked from the reverse of the cloth so the motif reads as a glow rather than a line — and her profile appears here exactly as she is credited in our workshop records.

The stitches
- Phanda (knot)Tight millet-seed knots placed one by one to build jasmine buds and flower centres.
- Tepchi (running)The swift running stitch laid along the printed motif, the ground on which every other stitch is built.
How to wear it
- Blouse cloth is not included and has to be bought. A white blouse repeats the thread, a deeper peach sets the ground against itself.
- Phanda knots sit raised and tepchi runs flat, so a plain blouse keeps both textures legible where a worked one buries them.
- Saanjh names the hour before dark. Peach and white are the whole of the colour, so a working day and an evening function are one drape and two blouses apart.
