Yakrang Pink Kota Saree
Yakrang is of one colour, and the pink is the thread's as well as the ground's, so what tells the two stitches apart is how they are made. Neelam hand embroidered them at two speeds in Lucknow, tepchi carried along the line in one pass, phanda stopping at each knot to tie it. Kota doria at 100–112 GSM, 77.4% cotton, 5.5 metres, blouse cloth not included.

The stitches
- Phanda (knot)Tight millet-seed knots placed one by one to build jasmine buds and flower centres.
- Tepchi (running)The swift running stitch laid along the printed motif, the ground on which every other stitch is built.
How to wear it
- Buying blouse cloth usually means choosing between the ground's colour and the thread's. On this saree they are the same pink, so there is one answer.
- A fold takes no colour out of this drawing, the thread being the cloth's own pink, so pleat it for how the drape falls rather than around the motifs.
