Seher Sky Blue and Peach Kota Saree
Peach draws the flowers along the border and the pallu, blue draws the vine that carries them, and both come out of the same tepchi. Rajiya hand embroidered the sky blue Kota doria in Lucknow, keel setting a blue point at each flower centre there. 5.5 metres, 77.4% cotton at 100–112 grams to the square metre, and Seher is daybreak, peach light on a pale blue sky.

Rajiya comes from a family where Chikankari has been practiced for generations, and she grew up watching her mother and grandmother stitch in the courtyard.

The stitches
- Keel KanganKeel sets the pointed flower centre. Kangan rings it like a bangle around the motif.
- Tepchi (running)The swift running stitch laid along the printed motif, the ground on which every other stitch is built.
How to wear it
- The blouse is not included and is yours to have cut. Peach is the easier of the two colours to match, since a second blue has to sit beside the ground's own.
- Peach sits further from the ground than the blue does, so the border reads first from across a room and the blue butis on the field arrive close up.
- The weave runs 100–112 grams to the square metre, enough body that the pleats you set in the morning are still sitting by evening.
