Pukhraj Light Yellow and Sea Blue Kota Saree
Sea blue thread on a light yellow ground puts the whole drawing on this Kota doria saree in a second colour, and Pukhraj is that yellow, the light clear sapphire rather than the deep. Tepchi runs the outline and keel kangan rings each pointed flower centre, all of it hand embroidered by Meena in Lucknow across 5.5 metres of 100% cotton. No blouse piece ships with the saree.

The stitches
- Keel KanganKeel sets the pointed flower centre. Kangan rings it like a bangle around the motif.
- Tepchi (running)The swift running stitch laid along the printed motif, the ground on which every other stitch is built.
How to wear it
- Cut the blouse in the same sea blue as the thread, and the embroidery reads as the pattern rather than as a detail on the drape.
- Silver and oxidised metal keep the blue thread company, where gold vanishes into the yellow ground and takes the drawing down with it.
- The thread has already put a second colour on the drape, so keep the bag and the sandals inside the yellow or the blue and add no third one.
