White thread nearly vanishes on white mulmul, so the orange and green birds are read first on this dupatta. The maker hand embroidered the three colours in Lucknow with one stitch, tepchi, a running stitch that outlines each bird and fills it row by row. Harsingar is the night jasmine, white petals on an orange stalk, and the 2.5 metres at 70–75 GSM end in tassels of all three colours.

The stitches
- Tepchi (running)The swift running stitch laid along the printed motif, the ground on which every other stitch is built.
How to wear it
- Orange and green are the two thread colours besides white, so a kurta in either one repeats a bird colour rather than adding a fourth.
- The tassels carry the same three colours as the thread, so the ends can hang in front where they show rather than be tucked away.
- At 70–75 GSM the white ground shows the colour under it, so over the coral kurta in the photographs the dupatta turns faintly pink and the creeper stays white.
