Makhan is butter, and this mulmul dupatta is the pale yellow of it, a ground light enough that white thread still shows against it. The maker hand embroidered one stitch across its 2.5 metres in Lucknow, tepchi, the running line that draws every flower and leaf of the creeper in white. The cloth is 70–75 GSM and ends in a plain hem, no tassel.

The stitches
- Tepchi (running)The swift running stitch laid along the printed motif, the ground on which every other stitch is built.
How to wear it
- Pale yellow and white share one light value, so from a distance the dupatta reads as a single tone and the creeper only shows up close.
- The photographs pair it with a white kurta and white pants, and the pairing works because pale yellow adds one colour to white and takes nothing away.
- No tassel weights the two ends, so the length hangs as the cloth falls and folds flat for a gift box.
