Falsa Pastel Purple Mulmul Dupatta
A dupatta brings its own colour to whatever it is worn over, and Falsa's purple is in the cloth, not the thread. White thread is all Gudiya hand embroidered into it in Lucknow, bakhiya stitched behind the mulmul and phanda knotted on its face. Falsa is the small purple summer berry, and the dupatta is 100% cotton, 2.5 metres long, 70–75 GSM.

The stitches
- Bakhiya (shadow work)Herringbone worked on the reverse of sheer cloth, so the motif glows through as a soft shadow, the signature of true Chikankari.
- Phanda (knot)Tight millet-seed knots placed one by one to build jasmine buds and flower centres.
How to wear it
- Over a white or cream kurta the embroidery matches what is underneath, so purple is the only new colour the outfit gains.
- Purple and yellow sit opposite each other on the colour wheel, so a mustard or marigold kurta under it is where this ground reads loudest.
- A dupatta asks for no measurement, so 2.5 metres of it goes as a gift where a kurta would need a size.
