Tepchi goes over and under the mulmul, so its line is a row of dashes, and on this dupatta the dashes are the whole embroidery. The maker hand embroidered them in Lucknow, white dashes drawing the creeper, green ones run side by side until each bird has a body. Mogra is the Arabian jasmine, white buds among green leaves, and the 2.5 metres at 70–75 GSM end in green tassels.

The stitches
- Tepchi (running)The swift running stitch laid along the printed motif, the ground on which every other stitch is built.
How to wear it
- Green is the one colour the thread adds, so a green kurta under it, as in the photographs, repeats the birds and leaves the creeper as the only contrast.
- The tassels are green rather than white, so the two ends carry the bird colour and are worth leaving to hang free at the front.
- The birds face both ways along the length, so the dupatta has no top or bottom and either end can go over the shoulder first.
