Six stitches went into this blue kurta and the yoke shows every one: bakhiya from the reverse, phanda and murri knots, pechni cord, keel kangan points, chana patti leaves in threes. The maker hand embroidered all six in one pale pink thread in Lucknow, on modal satin at 75–80 GSM. Jheel is a lake, and Jaipuri names the cut, not the embroidery: knee length, two pockets, a button placket.

Manju is an elderly Chikankari artisan who has spent most of her life stitching between household responsibilities, treating the craft as both work and quiet companionship.

The stitches
- Bakhiya (shadow work)Herringbone worked on the reverse of sheer cloth, so the motif glows through as a soft shadow, the signature of true Chikankari.
- Phanda (knot)Tight millet-seed knots placed one by one to build jasmine buds and flower centres.
- Murri (grain)Rice-grain knots wound around the needle, the classic raised centre of every floral butti.
- Pechni (twisted wrap)Tepchi wrapped over with thread into a raised, spiralled cord.
- Keel KanganKeel sets the pointed flower centre. Kangan rings it like a bangle around the motif.
- Chana Patti (gram leaf)Gram-leaf trios scattered along creepers, small leaves in threes.
How to wear it
- The Jaipuri cut widens from the shoulder to the knee, so straight white pants, as photographed, keep the width in the kurta alone.
- Two pockets sit in the side seams, so keys and a phone go in and the yoke keeps the eye without a bag strap across it.
- Modal satin carries a low sheen, so the blue shifts with the light and the pale pink yoke reads against it in the evening as well as by day.

Each piece is embroidered and finished by hand, so a measurement may vary by up to 1 inch. That variation is the signature of handwork, not a defect. The Jaipuri cut flares from under the bust, so the waist and hip figures run wider than the bust.
