Mulmul at 70–75 GSM folds without thickening, so the pintucks on the yoke and cuffs of this light green kurta read as lines of shadow rather than ridges. The maker hand embroidered the body in Lucknow with tepchi, drawing paisleys and vines in white across the ground, and set phanda knots at the flower centres. Pista is pistachio, and the kurta falls calf length with one pocket.

The stitches
- Tepchi (running)The swift running stitch laid along the printed motif, the ground on which every other stitch is built.
- Phanda (knot)Tight millet-seed knots placed one by one to build jasmine buds and flower centres.
How to wear it
- The kurta falls to the calf, so narrow white pants, as photographed, sit under it with only the ankle showing.
- One pocket sits in the side seam at the hip, so a phone travels in the kurta and the tepchi at the front stays uninterrupted.
- White thread on light green is a low contrast pairing, so the tepchi reads as texture at arm's length and as drawing up close, and it shows best in daylight.
