Jhilmil White Cambric Pintuck Kurta
Shailendri put this kurta's shine into metal and left the thread raised under a fingertip, white on white cambric. Tepchi runs the line along each motif and phanda ties the knots, the pair hand embroidered in Lucknow. The mukaish badla worked alongside them is Jhilmil's shimmer, and the kurta is 100% cotton, 70–75 GSM, with a mandarin collar and one pocket.

- Tepchi (running)The swift running stitch laid along the printed motif, the ground on which every other stitch is built.

- Mukaish (metal sparkle)Flattened metal wire pierced through the cloth and twisted into points of sparkle, Lucknow’s badla work.
How to wear it
- Metal is already worked into this kurta, so jewellery that catches the same light competes with it. Studs and a plain cuff leave the badla to do the shining.
- Pintuck folds and stitching are both read by shadow on this white ground, so a flat bottom in one colour keeps the surface interest in one place.
- White thread shows its relief in raking light and the badla catches light head on, so where you stand decides which half of the work you see.
