A hot afternoon is what Mehak is cut for: mulmul at 70–75 GSM in kali panels that swing clear of the legs to the calf, white embroidery at the yoke, cuffs and hem, butis scattered between. The maker hand embroidered five stitches there in Lucknow, bakhiya, phanda, pechni, chana patti and keel kangan, over pintucks that fan from a round buttoned neck. Mehak means fragrance, worn here in parrot green.

The stitches
- Bakhiya (shadow work)Herringbone worked on the reverse of sheer cloth, so the motif glows through as a soft shadow, the signature of true Chikankari.
- Phanda (knot)Tight millet-seed knots placed one by one to build jasmine buds and flower centres.
- Pechni (twisted wrap)Tepchi wrapped over with thread into a raised, spiralled cord.
- Chana Patti (gram leaf)Gram-leaf trios scattered along creepers, small leaves in threes.
- Keel KanganKeel sets the pointed flower centre. Kangan rings it like a bangle around the motif.
How to wear it
- Parrot green and white are the kurta's only two colours, so white pants below and white flowers in the hair keep the outfit to those two.
- The hem border sits at the calf, so a cropped or ankle length pant leaves it visible over the shoe.
- Green is the colour a mehndi function is usually dressed in, so the kurta goes to one as it is, with a dupatta or without.

Each piece is embroidered and finished by hand, so a measurement may vary by up to 1 inch. That variation is the signature of handwork, not a defect. The hip figure is taken across the kali flare, laid flat and doubled, which is why it runs wider than a straight kurta.
