Kachnar is the orchid tree whose pink lavender blossom opens over Awadh in spring, and the mulmul here is dyed to that flower, 70–75 GSM, with white thread doing all the drawing. The maker hand embroidered five stitches across it in Lucknow, bakhiya, phanda, pechni, chana patti and keel kangan, over a pintucked yoke with a round buttoned neck. Kali panels flare from the yoke seam to the calf.

The stitches
- Bakhiya (shadow work)Herringbone worked on the reverse of sheer cloth, so the motif glows through as a soft shadow, the signature of true Chikankari.
- Phanda (knot)Tight millet-seed knots placed one by one to build jasmine buds and flower centres.
- Pechni (twisted wrap)Tepchi wrapped over with thread into a raised, spiralled cord.
- Chana Patti (gram leaf)Gram-leaf trios scattered along creepers, small leaves in threes.
- Keel KanganKeel sets the pointed flower centre. Kangan rings it like a bangle around the motif.
How to wear it
- Lavender is a cool shade, so silver jewellery sits inside its range and gold cuts across it.
- Calf length with a kali flare clears the ground over flat juttis, so heels are a choice rather than a need.
- A single buti sits between the shoulder blades, so the back carries embroidery too and needs no dupatta to cover it.

Each piece is embroidered and finished by hand, so a measurement may vary by up to 1 inch. That variation is the signature of handwork, not a defect. The hip figure is taken across the kali flare, laid flat and doubled, which is why it runs wider than a straight kurta.
