White on orange reads as pure contrast until bakhiya: worked from the reverse, it comes through 70–75 GSM mulmul as a paler orange, and only phanda knots and pechni cords stay white. The maker hand embroidered all five stitches in Lucknow, chana patti leaves and keel kangan points with them, over a pintucked yoke and a round buttoned neck. Santra is the orange, cut in kali panels to the calf.

The stitches
- Bakhiya (shadow work)Herringbone worked on the reverse of sheer cloth, so the motif glows through as a soft shadow, the signature of true Chikankari.
- Phanda (knot)Tight millet-seed knots placed one by one to build jasmine buds and flower centres.
- Pechni (twisted wrap)Tepchi wrapped over with thread into a raised, spiralled cord.
- Chana Patti (gram leaf)Gram-leaf trios scattered along creepers, small leaves in threes.
- Keel KanganKeel sets the pointed flower centre. Kangan rings it like a bangle around the motif.
How to wear it
- Orange sits opposite blue on the colour wheel, so indigo or denim below is where this ground reads loudest, and white below is where it reads calmest.
- The round neck closes with a shell button placket and no collar, so a short chain or a choker sits on the cloth rather than under a collar.
- Three quarter sleeves end below the elbow with an embroidered cuff, so bangles sit against white embroidery rather than bare orange.

Each piece is embroidered and finished by hand, so a measurement may vary by up to 1 inch. That variation is the signature of handwork, not a defect. The hip figure is taken across the kali flare, laid flat and doubled, which is why it runs wider than a straight kurta.
