The maker had two ways to close a flower centre on this wheat beige mulmul, a white phanda knot or a mukaish point, and chose motif by motif across the bodice. The petals, hand embroidered in Lucknow as bakhiya from the reverse, surface as shadow, and the mukaish badla, metal wire twisted through the cloth alongside, is what shines. Gehun is wheat, and the 36 kali panels are 70–75 GSM.

The stitches

- Mukaish (metal sparkle)Flattened metal wire pierced through the cloth and twisted into points of sparkle, Lucknow’s badla work.
How to wear it
- The metal points are flattened wire, so perfume and deodorant sprays go on before the kurta, not over it.
- White thread and pale metal are already in the cloth, so pearls or silver repeat them and gold brings the wheat of the ground forward.
- No placket breaks the front, so the kurta goes on over the head and the bodice work runs unbroken from sleeve to sleeve.

Each piece is embroidered and finished by hand, so a measurement may vary by up to 1 inch. That variation is the signature of handwork, not a defect. The hip figure is taken across the 36 kali flare, laid flat and doubled, which is why it runs far wider than a straight kurta.
