Lalti left the gathered skirt below the empire seam to the dot the weave repeats. Tepchi, keel and phanda run together in white across the crossed bodice, along the V and out over the sleeves into a band at each cuff, hand embroidered in Lucknow. A grape gives Angoori its name and this mulmul its green, 70–75 GSM of 100% cotton.

The stitches
- Keel KanganKeel sets the pointed flower centre. Kangan rings it like a bangle around the motif.
- Phanda (knot)Tight millet-seed knots placed one by one to build jasmine buds and flower centres.
- Tepchi (running)The swift running stitch laid along the printed motif, the ground on which every other stitch is built.
How to wear it
- Gathers fall from the empire seam, so the width sits between the bust and the hem. A churidar or a straight pant keeps the volume to the top.
- The ground carries its own dot on an even grid, so a printed bottom sets two patterns against each other. Keep it plain.
- Embroidery runs over the bodice, the V, the sleeves and the cuffs, so a sleeved layer covers all of it. Worn open, the crossed front comes back into view.
