Motiya White Mulmul Angarkha Top
Motiya, the jasmine bud, is what phanda ties here, each knot pulled tight and set beside the next. Shilpi hand embroidered two more stitches into this angarkha in Lucknow, bakhiya stitched from behind so its motif reads as a shadow in front, and pechni wrapping a running line into a raised cord. The white is the same in thread and cloth, 100% cotton mulmul, featherweight at 70–75 GSM.

The stitches
- Bakhiya (shadow work)Herringbone worked on the reverse of sheer cloth, so the motif glows through as a soft shadow, the signature of true Chikankari.
- Pechni (twisted wrap)Tepchi wrapped over with thread into a raised, spiralled cord.
- Phanda (knot)Tight millet-seed knots placed one by one to build jasmine buds and flower centres.
How to wear it
- White thread on a white ground puts no second colour in the top, so the bottom you choose is the only colour decision the outfit asks you to make.
- A three quarter sleeve ends above the wrist, so bangles and a watch sit in the open instead of under a cuff.
