Mulmul runs 70–75 GSM and gives a tier nothing to stand on, so this top falls in soft steps close to the body. In Lucknow, Phoolmati hand embroidered blue and peach thread into the 100% cotton, bakhiya herringboned behind the cloth, keel bringing a flower to its point. Neither colour repeats the yellow it sits on, so Shehad, honey, names the ground and not the work.

Phoolmati is a large-motif specialist in the Shwet Heritage self-help-group network in Lucknow, with more than 12 years at the embroidery frame. Large motifs demand sustained tension control across broad fields of cloth — hours of even-handed work per panel — and her profile appears here exactly as she is credited in our workshop records.

The stitches
- Bakhiya (shadow work)Herringbone worked on the reverse of sheer cloth, so the motif glows through as a soft shadow, the signature of true Chikankari.
- Keel KanganKeel sets the pointed flower centre. Kangan rings it like a bangle around the motif.
How to wear it
- The thread offers two colours the cloth does not, so a blue or a peach bottom answers the embroidery instead of doubling the yellow.
- The hem lands at the hip, so the waistband under it goes unseen, and a bottom here is chosen for its leg line rather than for its waist.
