Sonjuhi Lemon Yellow Mulmul Tiered Top
Lemon yellow is the ground of this top, and Shailendri, in Lucknow, hand embroidered a yoke that meets it two ways. Bakhiya, laid from the reverse of 70–75 GSM mulmul, 100% cotton, brings the yoke's scallop repeat through the cloth, while inside each scallop a phanda flower is knotted on the face, raised above the arcs. Sonjuhi is the yellow jasmine.

The stitches
- Bakhiya (shadow work)Herringbone worked on the reverse of sheer cloth, so the motif glows through as a soft shadow, the signature of true Chikankari.
- Phanda (knot)Tight millet-seed knots placed one by one to build jasmine buds and flower centres.
How to wear it
- The mulmul is sheer enough to read a dark bottom through, so indigo denim shows as a shadow under it where an ivory trouser will not.
- Two gathered tiers carry the volume already, so a straight leg or a slim bottom keeps the line the top was cut for.
- Buttons run the full front, which means the top can be worn closed or left open over a camisole.
