Besan Yellow Mulmul Kurta and Cambric Pant Set
The gram that is ground for besan gives chana patti its name, and the stitch lays its leaf in threes, white on this yellow mulmul. Roopmati hand embroidered three Chikankari stitches in Lucknow, pechni winding a line up into a cord that stands off the cloth, phanda tying its knots one at a time. The kurta is mulmul at 70–75 GSM, the pants cambric, both 100% cotton.

Roopmati learned Chikankari from her mother while growing up in a small settlement near Lucknow, treating the craft as a quiet strength she could return to in uncertain times.

The stitches
- Chana Patti (gram leaf)Gram-leaf trios scattered along creepers, small leaves in threes.
- Pechni (twisted wrap)Tepchi wrapped over with thread into a raised, spiralled cord.
- Phanda (knot)Tight millet-seed knots placed one by one to build jasmine buds and flower centres.
How to wear it
- The kurta carries two pockets, so keys and a phone travel on you and a small bag is enough for the rest.
- Below the kurta the cloth changes to cambric on an elastic waist, so the pants pull on and the waist needs no fitting.
- One thread colour runs through the kurta, white, so a dupatta or a jacket in white adds no third colour above the waist.
