Phanda knots white thread on the face of this parrot green mulmul, and bakhiya lays the same white on the reverse. Sashi hand embroidered both of those stitches in Lucknow, and mukaish badla is worked alongside the Chikankari. Mustard cambric carries the same white embroidery below, so Hara Bhara names the green kurta and not the pants, both of them 100% cotton, 70–75 GSM.

Bakhiya (shadow work)Herringbone worked on the reverse of sheer cloth, so the motif glows through as a soft shadow, the signature of true Chikankari.
Phanda (knot)Tight millet-seed knots placed one by one to build jasmine buds and flower centres.

How to wear it

White is the only colour the two halves share, so a white dupatta or a white sandal ties them to each other where a third colour would pull them apart.
The pants carry white embroidery of their own, so what shows below the kurta is worked cloth rather than a plain bottom.
