Noor Pink Viscose Saree
White is the only other colour on this pink viscose saree, with 80 cm of blouse cloth included. Sheetal hand embroidered five stitches in Lucknow, bakhiya from the reverse, phanda tied knot by knot, pechni wound into a raised cord, chana patti scattering leaves in threes, keel setting each flower centre and kangan ringing it. Noor is light, and across 5.5 metres of matte viscose the light is thread.

Sheetal learned Chikankari in her teenage years, watching older women in her neighbourhood stitch to support their homes.

The stitches
- Bakhiya (shadow work)Herringbone worked on the reverse of sheer cloth, so the motif glows through as a soft shadow, the signature of true Chikankari.
- Chana Patti (gram leaf)Gram-leaf trios scattered along creepers, small leaves in threes.
- Keel KanganKeel sets the pointed flower centre. Kangan rings it like a bangle around the motif.
- Pechni (twisted wrap)Tepchi wrapped over with thread into a raised, spiralled cord.
- Phanda (knot)Tight millet-seed knots placed one by one to build jasmine buds and flower centres.
How to wear it
- An 80 cm blouse piece ships with the saree, so the neckline is a decision for your tailor rather than a compromise made at a rack.
- White work on a pink ground reads in daylight, which makes the saree a haldi or a mehndi morning as readily as a reception after dark.
- Silver or pearl follows the white thread and gold answers the pink ground. Wear one of them, because the saree already carries two colours.
