Rubina Khatoon, of Khadra in Lucknow, hand embroidered tepchi into this sleeveless top and added no second stitch, one running line white on a white ground, carrying the whole pattern. 60 denier runs both ways through the mulmul, so a cloth of 70–75 GSM is woven at a single fineness, its fibre 100% cotton. Chameli is the jasmine, the flower this white takes its name from.

Tepchi (running)The swift running stitch laid along the printed motif, the ground on which every other stitch is built.

How to wear it

White in the ground and white in the thread, so no shade on the top asks a bottom to match it. Whatever goes below brings the outfit its colour.
Denim shorts in June and tailored trousers with a jacket in an office are both bottoms this hem falls over, and the top does not change between them.
