Sunehri Yellow Mulmul Sleeveless Top
The face of this yellow top carries shading and nothing raised, because bakhiya is its one stitch and Malti Dadi worked it on the back of the cloth. Hand embroidered in Lucknow in white thread, the mulmul is 100% cotton at 70–75 GSM, 60 D in warp and weft, and no knot or cord stands above it. Sunehri is golden, and the gold is the ground.

The stitches
- Bakhiya (shadow work)Herringbone worked on the reverse of sheer cloth, so the motif glows through as a soft shadow, the signature of true Chikankari.
How to wear it
- White thread on a yellow ground is the whole of the colour here, so an ivory bottom answers the thread and an indigo one pushes the yellow forward.
- No stitch stands above the surface on this top, so a jacket or a shrug closes over the embroidery with nothing raised underneath to press flat.
- The neck is round and the arm is bare, so a short chain and a bangle both have plain skin to sit on rather than cloth.
