Beige thread on sky blue is sand under a clear sky, and the creeper the maker hand embroidered across this mulmul in Lucknow is a second tone of the cloth before it is a pattern. Bakhiya fills the flowers from the reverse, ghas patti fans leaves along the vine, phanda knots the centres. Aasmani means sky blue, 70–75 GSM in 36 kali panels, buttoned the full length of the front.

The stitches
- Bakhiya (shadow work)Herringbone worked on the reverse of sheer cloth, so the motif glows through as a soft shadow, the signature of true Chikankari.
- Phanda (knot)Tight millet-seed knots placed one by one to build jasmine buds and flower centres.
- Ghas Patti (grass leaf)Blades of grass worked in mirrored V-strokes, leaf-work that fans across hems and vines.
How to wear it
- Done up to the neck the placket makes a kurta, undone it makes a calf length layer over a camisole and pants, and nothing else about the outfit has to change.
- Beige thread on sky blue is two colours, so beige pants below it add none and white pants add a third, cooler than both.
- Calf length on a 36 kali flare clears the ankle, so flat juttis or sandals show below the hem and no heel is needed.

Each piece is embroidered and finished by hand, so a measurement may vary by up to 1 inch. That variation is the signature of handwork, not a defect. The hip figure is taken across the 36 kali flare, laid flat and doubled, which is why it runs far wider than a straight kurta.
