Kiran Sabz Green Chanderi Stole
Light goes through this Chanderi, 70–75 GSM on a warp of 20.5 denier, so both faces of the cloth are available to a needle. Sashi hand embroidered the stole in Lucknow using both, bakhiya keeping its thread on the reverse and phanda tying knots on the front, green thread on the green ground Sabz names. 190 cm, one piece, nothing folded in beside it.

Sashi learned Chikankari in Lucknow after her marriage. She moved to the city from outside it, saw the women in her neighbourhood working at the frame, and took up the craft there.

The stitches
- Bakhiya (shadow work)Herringbone worked on the reverse of sheer cloth, so the motif glows through as a soft shadow, the signature of true Chikankari.
- Phanda (knot)Tight millet-seed knots placed one by one to build jasmine buds and flower centres.
How to wear it
- 190 cm is stole length, short of the 2.25 to 2.5 metres a dupatta runs, so it goes over a kurta already finished rather than completing a set.
- Chanderi at 70–75 GSM adds no warmth, so the stole can stay on indoors through a Lucknow summer instead of being folded over an arm.
- Thread and ground are both green here, so a second green under the stole competes with it where an off white, a black or a mustard leaves it alone.
