Kiran Aaru Peach and Sea Blue Chanderi Stole
Sea blue is the thread on this peach Chanderi stole, a colour the ground does not carry anywhere. Phanda ties the sea blue into knots that sit on top of the peach, and bakhiya works the same thread along the reverse, where the cloth over it takes the colour down. Hema Devi hand embroidered its 1.90 metres in Lucknow, Chanderi weighing 70–75 GSM.

The stitches
- Bakhiya (shadow work)Herringbone worked on the reverse of sheer cloth, so the motif glows through as a soft shadow, the signature of true Chikankari.
- Phanda (knot)Tight millet-seed knots placed one by one to build jasmine buds and flower centres.
How to wear it
- Over a plain white kurta neither the peach nor the sea blue is already in the outfit, so the stole brings both colours to it.
- A peach kurta doubles the ground and leaves the blue as the only new mark, and a sea blue one turns the peach into the mark instead.
- Phanda shows the sea blue at full strength and bakhiya shows it muted from behind, so there are two blues here for a kurta to answer.
