Hariyali Light Green Mulmul Saree
Knot and cord are all the embroidery on this drape, and the catalogue holds no other saree worked in those two alone. In Lucknow, Savita hand embroidered the light green mulmul, pechni wrapping the white thread into a cord, phanda tying it into knots, so every white mark stands off the ground. Hariyali means greenery, the cloth 100% cotton, 70–75 grams to the square metre.

The stitches
- Pechni (twisted wrap)Tepchi wrapped over with thread into a raised, spiralled cord.
- Phanda (knot)Tight millet-seed knots placed one by one to build jasmine buds and flower centres.
How to wear it
- White on light green is the whole of it, and phanda leaves a point where pechni leaves a line, so it is the pechni that carries this saree across a room.
- Knots and cord stand off the cloth here, and a ring or a bangle is what pulls at them, so the hand that gathers the pallu is better left plain.
