Elaichi Lime Green Kota Saree
Shameem had one green for thread and cloth, so she judged each stitch by height, not colour. Tepchi lies flat and nearly disappears into the open check of an 80–85 GSM weave, while every phanda knot stands high enough to throw a shadow, like the ridges on the cardamom pod Elaichi names. 100% cotton Kota doria, 5.5 metres of it hand embroidered in Lucknow, no blouse cloth.

The stitches
- Phanda (knot)Tight millet-seed knots placed one by one to build jasmine buds and flower centres.
- Tepchi (running)The swift running stitch laid along the printed motif, the ground on which every other stitch is built.
How to wear it
- Blouse cloth is a separate purchase. Matching a lime green this pale is hard to do from a shelf, so a deeper green or an off white is the easier call.
- One colour runs through cloth and thread alike, so nothing on the saree has to be matched, and a bag or an earring can be chosen for its shape instead.
